India’s Crude Imports from Iran Rise in January: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total amount of India’s oil imports from Iran in January increased 1.5 percent compared to the imports a month earlier, a report said.

Economy

Iran’s oil exports to India rose 1.5 percent in January from the previous month, according to tanker arrival data obtained from sources and assessed by Thomson Reuters Oil Analytics.

It was while major Indian refinery Essar Oil shipped in 1.5 percent less oil from the Islamic Republic in January in comparison to the previous month.

Iran used to be India's second-biggest supplier before sanctions, but later plunged to the seventh place as refineries slowed purchases of Iranian oil due to sanctions.

The sanctions were lifted after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached an agreement on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16.
