US, Russian Top Diplomats: JCPOA Will ‘Remain in Place’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson discussed the implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, both stressing that the deal will “remain in place”.

"Yes, we have discussed Iran, as well as other key issues of international agenda,” Lavrov told reporters following a meeting with Tillerson on the sidelines of the 53rd edition of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Germany, Sputnik News reported.

He added, “We proceed from the premise that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which has settled the problem of the Iranian nuclear program, will remain in place. The US side continues to participate in monitoring of the implementation of the document along with other participants of this accord”.

The top Russian official further stressed that all sides to the JCPOA should honor their commitments under the deal and lift their unilateral sanctions against Tehran.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany) reached the nuclear deal in July 2015 and implemented it in January last year.

Since its foundation five decades ago, the MSC has become a leading international platform for dialogue on foreign and security policy.

In addition to its annual flagship conference, the MSC regularly convenes high-profile events on particular topics and regions and publishes the Munich Security Report.
