Syria Army Foils Daesh Attack in Deir Ez-Zor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies repelled a major attack by Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the western province of Deir ez-Zor, leaving large groups of them dead and injured.

On Sunday, Syrian forces claimed the lives of dozens of Daesh militants in south Deir ez-Zor after they attempted to sneak into the Panorama area, Syria's official news agency, SANA, reported.

Following the attack, the Arab country’s warplanes pounded the positions of the terrorists in areas near al-Maqaber, the Old Airport, al-Hamidia and al-Sina’a, inflicting major losses on them.

In a separate development, Syrian fighter jets bombed the gathering centers of the Takfiri Jabhat Fateh Sham, formerly known as al-Nusra Front, in the area of Kafer Zeitta in the central province of Hama, forcing them to flee.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
