Iran Offers Dialogue with Arab States to Help Tackle Regional Woes

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the Islamic Republic is ready to start dialogue with Persian Gulf Arab states to help address regional woes.

"On regional dialogue, I'm modest and I'm focusing on the Persian Gulf. We have enough problems in this region so we want to start a dialogue with countries we call brothers in Islam," Zarif told delegates at the Munich Security Conference on Sunday, Reuters reported.

He added, "We need to address common problems and perceptions that have given rise to anxieties and the level of violence in the region."

Last week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani paid visits to the neighboring countries of Oman and Kuwait and held talks on various issues, including ways to promote the Islamic Republic’s relations with the Arab countries.

Zarif earlier in his speech at the security conference had condemned certain states for trying to endanger other countries for their own safety, stressing that ensuring security at the expense of the insecurity of others is “unrealistic” and “absurd”.

Since its foundation five decades ago, the MSC has become a leading international platform for dialogue on foreign and security policy.

In addition to its annual flagship conference, the MSC regularly convenes high-profile events on particular topics and regions and publishes the Munich Security Report.
