ACL: Iran’s Esteghlal Khuzestan Victorious over Saudi Al Fateh
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Esteghlal Khuzestan started the 2017 AFC Champions League with a 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia’s Al Fateh in Group B on Monday.
Abolfazl Alaei found the back of the net with a header in the 80th minute to ensure the Iranian team took all three points in ACL opener at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.
The continental debutant from Ahvaz was on top for much of the tie but could not find the breakthrough until 10 minutes from time when defender Alaei rose highest to nod home Peyman Shirzadi's inswinging corner at the back post.
Al Fateh, who is making its second appearance in the competition after 2014, see its winless run in the AFC Champions League stretch to seven games after it failed to pick up a victory in its inaugural campaign.
