Russian Presidential Aide Says Astana Platform Helpful for Settling Syrian Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The main outcome of the Astana meetings was the trilateral mechanism set up for monitoring the Syrian ceasefire, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said.

In the future, the Astana platform will be much sought after for settling the Syrian crisis, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters.

"The Astana meetings on Syria (held on January 23-24 and February 15-16) have proved to be one of the most significant results of Russian-Kazakh cooperation on international level," he said.

"The main outcome of the Astana meetings was the trilateral mechanism (involving Russia, Iran and Turkey) set up for monitoring the Syrian ceasefire," Ushankov added, TASS reported.

"The unique potential of the Astana platform will be used in the future in order to facilitate a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis," the Russian presidential aide stressed.

On February 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to meet his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev in Almaty, Ushakov added.
