Senior Bahraini Clerics Underline Necessity to Defend Sheikh Isa Qassim

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Bahrain’s top clerics, in a statement on Saturday, underlined the significance of continued support for the country’s top Shiite cleric Sheikh Isa Qassim against the ruling Al Khalifa regime oppression.

The statement asked Bahrainis to support the spiritual leader of the country’s dissolved opposition bloc, al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, until the last drops of their blood.

According to a report by the Lebanese Al Manar network, the Bahraini clerics also asked the country’s authorities to stop attacking people and respect their demands.

They said that the government should try to find a political solution to the situation in the country.

Bahraini authorities stripped Sheikh Isa Qassim of his citizenship on June 20, 2016. They later dissolved the Islamic Enlightenment Institution, founded by him, in addition to the opposition al-Risala Islamic Association.

The Manama regime has leveled charges of “illegal fund collections, money laundering and helping terrorism” against Sheikh Qassim, who has strongly rejected them.
