Daesh Claims Failed Suicide Attack in Algeria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Algerian authorities are trying to confirm the identity of a failed suicide bomber who was killed in an attack on a police station in the city of Constantine. The thwarted attack was claimed by Daesh.

According to the Algerian news service (APS), a police officer in front of the building fired at the attacker's explosives belt, which detonated before it could do major damage on Sunday evening, AP reported.

Two officers were lightly wounded, APS said. Daesh claimed "a number" of injuries and deaths.

The attack targeted Sunday a police station in the eastern Algerian city of Constantine with official accounts announcing two officers injured, while some press reports put the number of the injured at a dozen, including three policemen.

“An officer who was in front of the police station, in a building that is home to a dozen families, responded energetically and heroically after several warnings, targeting with precision the explosive belt worn by a terrorist,” police said in a statement cited by APS news agency.
