Iran Ranks First among World’s DRI Producers

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Republic of Iran ranked first among countries producing Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) in January 2017, the preliminary data published by the World Steel Association showed.

According to World Steel data, the estimated DRI output by Iran in January amounted to 1.325 million metric tons, Scrap Monster reported.

India and Mexico were the second and third largest DRI producing nations, according to the report.

Iran’s DRI output in January increased slightly when compared with the previous month. The DRI output by Iran had totaled 1.323 million metric tons during the previous month.

The global DRI production had totaled 53.975 million metric tons during the entire year 2016. Iran emerged the top producer with 16,013 million metric tons, accounting for nearly 30% of total production by world countries during the year.
