Carlos Queiroz to Coach South Africa?

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran coach Carlos Queiroz and two-time Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) winner Herve Renard are reportedly the frontrunners for the vacant South Africa coaching position.

The African team is without a coach after parting ways with Shakes Mashaba in December 2016.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) technical committee has trimmed the candidate list down to two men - Queiroz and Renard, SowetanLive reported.

The former Real Madrid coach is no stranger to South African football, having held the same position between 2000 and 2002.

SAFA will announce a new head coach this week – most likely on Friday or possibly Monday.

Queiroz has been in charge of Iran since 2011, having guided Team Melli to the top of their 2018 World Cup qualifying group at the halfway point of the competition.
