Iran Beaten by S. Korea at Asian Women's Handball Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran was defeated against host South Korea 44-22 in the 2017 Asian Women's Handball Championship on Wednesday.

South Korea has been the dominant force at the Asian Championship, winning 12 times in the last 15 editions.

Iran opened the campaign with a 33-8 loss to China in Group A.

The Persians will play Vietnam on Friday.

A total of eight teams are divided into two groups of four. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knockout round.

Group B consists of Japan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong.

The Asian Championship doubles as the qualifying tournament for the 2017 World Women's Handball Championship. Top three finishers will advance to the 24-team world competition in Germany in December.
