Yemeni Forces Target Saudi Positions with Advanced Homegrown Missile

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s army and popular committees, in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi-led coalition forces, hit their positions in the kingdom’s Asir region with an advanced domestically-made missile dubbed “Zelzal-2”.

The missile command of the Yemeni army fired the ballistic missile at Saudi positions in the al-Alab border crossing of Asir region, the Arabic-language Al Mayadeen reported.

In simultaneous attacks, the Yemeni forces pounded the gatherings of Saudi troops and mercenaries of the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh, with Katyusha missiles in other areas in Asir region.

A Yemeni military source said that following a unique operation by the Yemeni forces in al-Saq region in Shabwah province, 18 mercenaries of Hadi were killed.

The Yemeni forces carried out the attacks in retaliation for the continued massacre of civilians and destruction of the country’s infrastructure by the Saudi-led coalition.

The forces of the Arabian Peninsula country have already hit Saudi positions with various homegrown ballistic missiles, including “Qaher-1”, which has a range of 500 kilometers, and “Borkan-1”.

The solid propellant and Scud-type Borkan-1 missile reportedly has a range of more than 800 kilometers.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to Hadi.

Nearly 11,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
