Syrian Troops Liberate Strategic Village in Hama from Terrorists

ALEPPO (Tasnim) – Syria’s army backed by allied forces managed to retake Kawkab, a village in the western-central province of Hama, from the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (former known as al-Nusra Front) terrorist group.

According to Tasnim dispatches, Syrian military forces continued their advances against Takfiri terrorists in Hama province, retaking full control over the village of Kawkab.

During the operation to recapture the village, a large number of terrorists from Jabhat Fateh al-Sham were killed and injured.

Military sources said the Syrian army’s operations are underway to liberate other rebel-held areas in Hama province.

Earlier, Syrian army troops had managed to lay a siege to Dayr Hafir, the last stronghold of the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo.

On Wednesday, a Syrian military source said the army is sending reinforcements to face a major militant offensive in Hama province.

The military source said the Takfiri groups had mobilized large numbers for the assault that was targeting towns including Soran, some 20 km (12 miles) north of Hama city, and Khattab, about 10 km northwest of it.

Battles were ongoing in both places, the military source said at the time. "Reinforcements are now being sent," the source added.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
