Iran Comes Fourth in Women’s U-19 Football Tournament

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran finished in fourth place in the women’s U-19 football tournament “Kuban Spring” on Sunday.

The Iranian team lost to Slovenia 3-1 in the tournament’s third-place match.

Leyla Vaghari’s girls earned three successive wins over Krasnodar region, Kazakhstan and Slovenia in Group A.

Group B included host Russia, Azerbaijan, Romania and Belarus.

Iran lost to Russia in the semis and came fourth in the tournament after suffering its second defeat against Slovenia.

Russia won the title after defeating Belarus 4-3 in penalty shootout in the final match.

The tournament was held for the first time in 2004 in Poltava Stanitsa, Krasnodar Krai. It began as a club tournament, later acquiring international status, and since 2010 it is held in Sochi.
