Iranian Wrestlers Win Two Medals at Polyak Memorial Wrestling

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hossein Shokri and Alireza Kargar from Iran claimed a silver and a bronze medal at the Polyak Imre Memorial Greco-Roman wrestling tournament.

Shokri lost to Hungarian Viktor Lorinc 8-0 in the 85kg and won a silver medal. Georgian Robert Kobliashvili and Eerik Aps from Estonia won the bronze medal.

Kargar and Ivan Lizatovic from Croatia won the bronze medal in the 59kg weight class.

The gold medal went to Japanese Kenichiro Fumita who defeated Serbian Kristijan Fris 4-3.

Imre Polyak was a featherweight Greco-Roman wrestler from Hungary. He competed in the 1952, 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics and won one gold and three silver medals. He won the world title in 1955, 1958 and 1962, and placed second in 1961 and 1963.

Polyak was a policeman by profession. After retiring from competitions he worked as a coach in his native club Ujpesti. In 2003 he was one of the first athletes to be inducted into the FILA International wrestling Hall of Fame.
