US Attacked Syria to Hamper Political Settlement of Crisis: Iranian Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani described the recent US military attack against a Syrian airbase as an effort to impede the process of political settlement of conflicts in the Arab country and a move to revive the ailing terrorist groups.

Addressing a parliament session on Monday, Larijani warned the US that the terrorist groups Washington is trying to resuscitate in Syria will surely go their own way and cause trouble for the US in future.

Following Iraq and Syria’s victories against terrorists in Mosul and Aleppo and the plans for evacuation of the armed groups from those cities, the US initiated a new process to revitalize terrorism in the region, the speaker deplored.

He finally tasked the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission to hold meetings on the recent US attack on Syria, given the significance of regional security for Iran.

On Friday, the US launched the missile attack on the Syrian government’s Shayrat Airfield near Homs with 59 Tomahawk missiles on the pretext that the Damascus government has allegedly launched a chemical attack on the town of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib Province.
