Last week’s US strike on a Syrian army airbase in the central province of Homs was “essentially wrong” and a move in the interest of the terrorist groups wreaking havoc on the Arab country, Rouhani told reporters in Tehran on Monday.
“A recurrence of such an action could be very dangerous for the region,” he further warned, stressing that US actions in Syria are in violation of the international law, logic and other countries’ interests.
On Friday, the US military attacked the Syrian government’s Shayrat Airfield near Homs with 59 Tomahawk missiles. Officially announcing the strike, US President Donald Trump claimed that the targeted airfield had launched the chemical attack on the rebel-held area in Idlib.
The Iranian president added that the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the use of chemical weapons regardless of who uses them.
The Americans carried out the assault on the Syrian airbase under a pretext which is neither “documented nor clear”, Rouhani went on to say.
