Syrian Army Seizes Several Districts in Hama

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies stepped up their attacks on the Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly known as al-Nusra Front) terrorist group in Hama, wresting control of several areas in the northern province.

On Sunday, Syrian forces launched separate offensives against the positions of al-Nusra Front terrorists across Hama, liberating the areas of Halfayia, Zalin, al-Wabida, Zour al-Nasiryia, Zour Abu Zaid, Talet al-Nasiryia and Talet al-Mintar from the grip of the militants, a Syrian military source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said, according to SANA.

Hundreds of the terrorists were killed and nearly 40 of their vehicles and tanks destroyed in the operations.

Seven mortar launchers, two cars equipped with heavy machineguns and heavy and light weapons were also seized during the attacks.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
