Iran Claims Title at U-16 WABA Championship
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran won the U-16 West Asia Basketball Association (WABA) Championship 2017 on Sunday.
Iran defeated Lebanon 72-64 in Tehran’s Azadi Hall to earn its fourth successive victory.
The Iranian team started the competition with an 84-42 win against Syria, then beat Iraq 85-58.
The Persian Gulf country defeated Jordan 94-53 in its third match.
Competition’s finalists Iran and Lebanon qualified for the FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship.
The competition is an under-16 basketball championship in the International Basketball Federation's FIBA Asia zone.
The event started in 2009 and is held bi-annually. The winners compete in the FIBA Under-17 World Championship, which started in 2010.
