Iran Criticizes Turkish Airstrike in Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry denounced attacks by Turkish warplanes in northwestern Iraq as a violation of the Arab country’s sovereignty.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Wednesday slammed the Turkish aerial attack in the Sinjar area as a violation of Iraq’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

“Violation of sovereignty of states with any motive and justification constitutes an infringement of internationally accepted rules and norms, and prepares the ground for continuation and escalation of regional instability,” he deplored.

On Tuesday, Turkish fighter jets bombed Kurdish fighters in Iraq and Syria.

Kurdish officials said one Turkish airstrike had struck Kurdish Peshmerga troops on Mount Sinjar in northwestern Iraq, killing at least five and wounding more, some critically.
