Iranian FM, Kyrgyz Speaker Discuss Closer Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and visiting Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker Chynybai Tursunbekov exchanged views on a range of issues, including the latest efforts to boost ties between the two countries in diverse fields.

In the meeting held in Tehran on Wednesday, Zarif hailed Tehran-Bishkek relations as close and described the Central Asian country as one of “the friends” of the Islamic Republic.

Iran and Kyrgyzstan have always had good relations, the top Iranian diplomat added.

Tursunbekov, for his part, highlighted Iran’s history, culture, and civilization and said that the Islamic Republic has always enjoyed an influential and proper place in the international community in terms of culture and civilization.

The Kyrgyz speaker’s visit follows Zarif’s recent trip to Kyrgyzstan as part of a regional tour that also took him to Turkmenistan and Georgia.

Addressing a conference on Iran-Kyrgyzstan trade ties in Bishkek last Wednesday, Zarif said the official diplomatic relations between the two states over the past 25 years originate from their cultural and religious commonalities, their neighborliness, and joint historical background.

“We consider no limit to the relations with Kyrgyzstan and are ready to expand ties in all fields,” the top Iranian diplomat added.
