Indoor Hockey Asia Cup: Iran Qualifies for Final


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran advanced to the final match of the seventh edition of the Indoor Hockey Asia Cup.

The title-holder defeated Uzbekistan 12-2 in the competition’s semi-final and booked a place in the Hockey Indoor World Cup 2018 which will be held in Berlin, Germany from February 7 to 11.

Iran will face Kazakhstan on Friday in the final match in Doha, Qatar.

Iran earned its second victory in the seventh edition of the Indoor Hockey Asia Cup, beating host Qatar 9-3 at the Aspire Dome.

Iran defeated Malaysia 11-0 in its first match in Group A and then downed Qatar 9-3. The Persian Gulf country beat Oman 10-3 to qualify for the semi-final.

Iran is the most decorated Asian team, having won six previous editions.

Indoor Hockey Asia Cup is an international men's and women's indoor field hockey tournament governed by the Asian Hockey Federation (ASHF).

It was introduced in 2008 for men's competition and the women's competition was added a year later in 2009.
