Syrian Forces Shoot Down Daesh Spy Drone in Deir Ez-Zor: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian forces shot down a Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) reconnaissance aircraft in Deir ez-Zor as they continue to push ahead with their operations against the terrorist group in the eastern province.

According to a report by Syria’s SANA news agency, the spy drone was downed by Syrian armed forces over al-Makabbat area south of Deir ez-Zor on Monday.

Daesh militants also suffered serious setbacks in the province’s Maqaber area as the army continued to target their positions in the area.

Several of their vehicles, including a bulldozer, were destroyed in the army attacks.

In a separate development, army troops made gains against the Jabhat Fatah al-Sham terrorist group in the southwestern province of Daraa, inclting losses on them in Daraa al-Balad, Buser al-Harir and Jeninin in Allajt area.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
