EU’s Mogherini Urges All Sides’ Compliance with JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini called on all parties to the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world power to remain compliant with the accord.

“The nuclear deal with Iran shows the way forward to us, the Europeans. It set a milestone for non-proliferation,” Mogherini said in her annual briefing to the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday, according to the official website of the EU.

She added, “World powers negotiated the deal, but the agreement was immediately ratified by the Security Council and the deal now belongs to the entire international community – not only to us who were in that room in Vienna”.

Referring to numerous reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Iran’s compliance with the agreement, the EU’s top diplomat stressed that the 28-member bloc attaches great importance to the full implementation of the deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the nuclear deal in July 2015. When it came into force in January 2016, the JCPOA terminated all nuclear-related anti-Iran sanctions.
