Italian Police Investigate Reports of Small Bomb Blast in Rome

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Italian police are investigating after a bomb reportedly exploded outside a post office in a central district of Rome.

Emergency services told the state broadcaster RAI that the situation was under control. The channel reported a double explosion, with one car damaged.

RAI said two devices had been found near parked cars in the area. Authorities were exploring all possible causes, including that the explosive may have been a letter bomb or a similar improvised device, the guardian reported.

Television footage showed police officers and firefighters at the scene, and police tape blocking off part of the street.

Il Giornale newspaper reported that two remote-controlled devices may have caused the blast, but the target was unclear.

The information service Luceverde, run by the Italian Automobile Club in collaboration with city police, said on Twitter that an area near the site of the ancient Circus Maximus racetrack had been closed for security reasons, but traffic was unaffected.
