Iranian Speaker Calls on President to Prioritize People’s Demands

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani offered his congratulations to President Hassan Rouhani over his re-election and urged him to put addressing the people’s demands top on his agenda.

In a message released on Sunday, Larijani hailed the high turnout in the recent elections and said at a time when the entire world, the Middle East in particular, is plagued with insecurity more than ever, the massive presence of “the great Iranian nation” played a pivotal role in ensuring the security of the country.

Now, in recognition of this honorable and epic participation of the people in the votes, the administration is duty bound to prioritize addressing the rightful demands of the people, the speaker stressed.

Iranians headed to the polls as soon as the stations opened on Friday to elect the country’s 8th president.

Incumbent President Hassan Rouhani emerged victorious and secured a second term by winning 57 percent of the votes.

More than 56,400,000 Iranian people were eligible to vote. With the participation of more than 41 million voters, the turnout stood at 73 percent.

Concurrently, the 5th City and Village Councils elections were held across the country.
