Iran’s FM Urges Trump to Talk with Saudis on How to Avoid Another 9/11

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday called on US President Donald Trump, who is currently on an official visit to Riyadh, to enter into dialogue with his Saudi hosts on how to prevent another 9/11 terrorist attack.

"(Trump) must enter into dialogue with them about ways to prevent terrorists and takfiris from continuing to fuel the fire in the region and repeating the likes of the September 11 incident by their sponsors in Western countries," Zarif wrote for the website of the London-based Al Araby Al-Jadeed news network.

Trump arrived in Riyadh on Saturday morning on the first leg of a nine-day overseas tour. He is scheduled to outline his vision for US-Muslim relations to an audience of more than 50 leaders of Muslim countries attending a so-called "Arab Islamic American Summit” on Sunday.

"You will find out who really knocked down the World Trade Center because they have papers out there that are very secret. You may find it's the Saudis, okay, but you will find out,” the Iranian minister added, according to Reuters.

Saudi Arabia is a surprising choice of destination for Trump's first overseas trip since taking office.

In February 2016, during his presidential election campaign, he suggested that Saudi officials had been complicit in the 9/11 attacks. "Who blew up the World Trade Center?" he said. "It wasn't the Iraqis, it was Saudi - take a look at Saudi Arabia, open the documents."
