Trump Went to Saudi Arabia Like A Peddler, Iranian Official Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A ranking Iranian official and former foreign minister likened the US president’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia for signing a big arms deal to a trip by a peddler, saying such close partnership between Riyadh and Washington is the very embodiment of American Islam.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Tuesday, Head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran's Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati described the close ties between the US and Saudi Arabia  as a clear demonstration of American Islam, which had been already clarified by late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini.

The fact that Trump, just like a peddler, tours the epicenter of the Muslim world to collect money to revive the US bankrupt economy is an example of US-favored version of Islam, he said.

On Saturday, Trump sealed a $110 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia on his maiden foreign trip as the US president. The deal, plus other investments that could total up to $350 billion, was the central achievement of Trump's visit to the kingdom, first stop on a nine-day journey through the Middle East and Europe.
