G7 Acknowledges Importance of Dialogue with Moscow: Italian Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The G7 member countries acknowledge importance of a dialogue with Moscow, which is necessary for settlement of key international crises, as well as for common response to modern challenges, first of all - the terrorism, Italy’s Foreign Minister Algelino Alfano said.

However, he continued, "this does not reduce the pressure on Russia regarding its responsibility related to the Ukrainian crisis, which had made the G7 countries imply limitation measures in various formats [at the level of EU and at national levels]."

"As for the European sanctions, their term depends on implementation of the Minsk agreements, which remains a criteria for Italy," the foreign minister told TASS in an exclusive interview on May 27.

The 43rd G7 summit in Italy’s Taromina closes on May 27. On the first day of the summit, May 26, the participants discussed relations with Russia, though this topic is not on the main agenda.

Italy, chairing G7 now, said earlier that one of the tasks is to stabilize the constructive dialogue with Russia on international topics. This item is a part of the final declaration adopted at the G7 Foreign Ministers meeting, which Alfano chaired on April 10-11 in Lucca. This topic may also be reflected in the final statement of the countries’ leaders, which will be published on Saturday after the summit is over.

The G7 unites Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
