Parliamentary Commission to Be Briefed on Tehran Terror Attacks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission plans to hold a special meeting on Wednesday to probe into the recent deadly attacks in Tehran that were claimed by the Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group, the rapporteur of the commission said.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Tuesday, Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said the meeting would be held on Wednesday morning with some security and intelligence officials in attendance.

He said that following the meeting and the briefings by the security officials, a report on the twin Tehran terrorist attacks may be drafted and submitted to the presiding board of the parliament.

On June 7, terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on Iran’s parliament building in downtown Tehran and on the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, south of the city.

The assailants attacked the parliament buildings in the morning. Equipped with AK-47 assault rifles, handguns, grenades and suicide vests, the gunmen killed security guards and ordinary people before holding people hostage in the upper floors of the building.

They were all killed by the security forces after an operation that took several hours.

In the other attack at the shrine of Imam Khomeini, one suicide bomber blew himself up while the second one was killed in an exchange of gunfire.

The death toll from the terrorist incidents in Tehran grew to 17, while more than 40 others were wounded.
