Iranian MP Rejects Tillerson’s Regime Change Rhetoric as ‘Nonsense’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi shrugged off US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s rhetoric of regime change in Iran, describing it as a repetition of US officials’ nonsensical remarks.

“Over the past 38 years, US statesmen have always repeated these nonsensical remarks,” Boroujerdi told the Tasnim News Agency, referring to Tillerson’s comments that Washington’s new policy toward Iran includes making attempts at regime change.

During these years, the US government has supported the anti-Iran terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), he noted.

The parliamentarian added that for years, the US has used all its military, economic and political power in the Middle East against the Islamic Republic but has been defeated in all arenas.

“We do not care about the recent comments by the US secretary of state,” Boroujerdi stated.

In comments at the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday, Tillerson had announced that US policy is driven by relying on “elements inside of Iran” to bring about “peaceful transition of that government.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry later slammed his remarks as “meddlesome” and being “in clear breach of rules of customary international law.”
