Israeli Settlers, Forces Storm Aqsa Mosque again, Injure Dozens

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli forces once again stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Israeli-occupied Old City of East Jerusalem (al-Quds) and besieged all worshipers inside it.

The worshippers protested the move and the Israeli forces brutally attacked them with sticks and pepper spray, causing dozens of injuries, Arabic-language Palestine al-Yawm news agency reported.

The regime forces also arrested a number of the Palestinian worshippers.

This came after a group of Israeli settlers illegally entered the mosque’s courtyard under heavy security, in a blatant provocation of Muslim traditions.

The al-Aqsa Mosque compound is a flashpoint Islamic site, which is also holy to Jews.

Under a 1967 deal between the Israeli regime and Jordan, the compound’s custodian, non-Muslim worship is prohibited at the site.

In defiance of the agreement, the regime in Tel Aviv regularly allows Israeli settlers and extremists to enter the site and carry out religious rituals -- often under armed guard.
