Quds Day Promotes Unity among Muslim Nations: Palestinian Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A spokesman for Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip highlighted the importance of the upcoming International Quds Day, saying that the anti-Israeli rallies held worldwide in support of Palestinians on the occasion can boost unity among Muslim nations.

“The Quds Day is, in fact, a day of calling on Muslims to consider Palestine as a unifying option,” Khalid al-Batsh said in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency ahead of the Quds Day.

He further pointed to ongoing developments and conflicts in the Middle East and said they are part of a plot to overshadow the Palestinian issue and make Muslims forget it.

“However, this will not happen and Palestine will remain at the center of attention as a pivotal issue,” the Palestinian figure added.

“The international Quds Day will bring views closer and all Muslims in different countries, including Shiites and Sunnis, will participate in the rallies (to mark the day) in unison,” he stated.

The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.

The day is seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.

This year, Muslims world over will mark the International Quds Day on June 23.
