Iran Reliable Trade Partner for Germany: FM Zarif

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described the Islamic Republic as a “reliable trade partner” for Germany, stressing that the time is ripe for enhanced economic cooperation between Tehran and Berlin.

“Now is the time for Iran and Germany to promote their economic cooperation,” Zarif said in a meeting with German Economy Minister Brigitte Zypries in Berlin on Tuesday.

He added that closer banking cooperation could obviously pave the way for the expansion of economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Describing Iran as a “reliable trade partner” for Germany, the Iranian minister said the two countries could cooperate, jointly produce products and export them to the region, the Central Asian states in particular.

Zypries, for her part, referred to the age-old relations between Iran and Germany and said the ties between the two nations currently stand at a very good level.

She further called for closer economic ties between Tehran and Berlin and noted that the country’s Hermes insurance firm is eager to provide cover for all investment projects in Iran.

Zarif arrived in the German capital of Berlin on the first leg of his European tour to participate in the annual meeting of European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) and hold talks with senior German officials. He is scheduled to leave Germany for Italy as the second and final leg of his European tour.
