Syrian Warplanes Target Daesh Positions in Deir Ez-Zor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian warplanes on Tuesday pounded the hideouts of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor in several areas, killing and injuring a large group of them.

Syrian jets hit the terrorists’ positions in the neighborhoods of al-Hweiqa, al-Matar al-Qadim and al-Arfi in Deir ez-Zor, SANA news agency reported.

Dozens of the Takfiri militants lost their lives during the air raids.

The Syrian army and its allies also foiled a major attack by the terror group on the outskirts of the al-Reshdiyeh in Deir ez-Zor and killed 5 terrorists.

In addition, the army shelled Daesh gathering centers in the vicinity of the areas of al-Maqaber, al-Hweiqa, the Regiment 137 and al-Bgheliyah in the eastern province and inflicted major losses on them.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August 2016 that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
