Iran Sympathizes with China over Fatal Floods

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry expressed sympathy with the Chinese government and nation over deaths in the floods that have killed dozens of people in southern parts of the Asian country in recent days.

In a message on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi offered condolences to the Chinese government, nation and families of victims of the devastating floods.

At least 56 people have been killed and 22 are missing as heavy rains pummeled southern China, flooding towns, cutting off power and destroying houses, officials said on Tuesday.

Water levels in more than 60 different rivers have risen above warning levels, forcing more than 1.2 million people to evacuate.

Authorities said more than 38,000 homes have collapsed and nearly 880,000 hectares of crops have been damaged.
