Iranian Deputy FM, IAEA Chief Discuss JCPOA Implementation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Yukiya Amano exchanged views about latest efforts to implement the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, known as JCPOA.

In the meeting held in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Thursday, the two sides held talks on a range of issues, including the ways to boost cooperation between Iran and the IAEA on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In his remarks, Amano praised Tehran for its constructive cooperation with the IAEA and fulfilling its obligations under the JCPOA as confirmed in the UN nuclear watchdog's reports.

The meeting was held ahead of the eighth session of the JCPOA joint commission, a group tasked with monitoring commitments to the nuclear deal, which is slated to be held on Friday in Vienna.

The seventh session of the JCPOA joint commission was held in Vienna in late April.

Vienna’s Palais Coburg hotel played host to the meeting at the level of deputy foreign ministers from Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

The meeting focused on various issues, including proper implementation of the deal as well as all parties’ compliance with it.

It was co-chaired by Araqchi and EU's Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Helga Maria Schmid.
