Iranian Official Chides Kuwait for ‘Baseless’ Allegations
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A special aide to Iran’s parliament speaker rejected as groundless the accusations made by Kuwait about alleged links between Iran and a "spy and terror" cell, saying the friendship between Iran and Kuwait will remain eternal.
In a post in his social network page on Friday, former deputy foreign minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said Kuwait’s baseless accusations against Iran and the Arab country’s decision to expel a number of Iranian diplomats was beneath the Kuwaiti emir’s wise conduct.
“Tehran and Kuwait will remain together with friendship and fraternity,” he noted.
It came after Kuwait ordered the expulsion of the Iranian ambassador and 14 other diplomats for alleged links to the “Abdali cell.” Kuwait has also told Iran's cultural and military missions to shut down under a court order.
Media reports said on Thursday that Kuwait had shut down the office of Iran’s cultural attaché and reduced the number of Iranian diplomats in the country from 19 to 4.
Afterwards, Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned Kuwaiti Charge D'affaires Falah al-Hajraf to protest the accusations.
“It is regrettable that the Kuwaiti officials, are acting based on provocations raised by adventurist regional sides and are leveling accusations against Iran in the current sensitive conditions, instead of doing their best to reduce tensions,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said.
