TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraq’s Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri took up his Iranian counterpart’s invitation to attend the swearing-in ceremony for Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, slated for August 5.

In a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari in Baghdad on Sunday, Jabouri said he will travel to Tehran to attend President Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony at Iran’s parliament.

He also voiced the Iraqi parliament’s support for the efforts by the governments of Tehran and Baghdad for closer relations.

Jabouri and Jaberi Ansari further discussed the latest regional developments and the situation in Iraq, with both emphasizing the necessity for preserving Iraq’s unity and territorial integrity and for concerted action against terrorism and extremism.

The Iranian diplomat then briefed the Iraqi speaker on the results of the meetings of Iran-Iraq joint political committee.
