Syrian Troops Score Fresh Gains in Homs, Raqqa

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies stepped up their attacks against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the countryside of the ancient city of Palmyra, Homs province, retaking several districts in the central province.

The army and allied groups made gains against Daesh in Palmyra and liberated several major hilltops in Homs province.

Scores of the terrorists lost their lives during the clashes.

Separately, the Syrian troops inflicted major losses on the militants in Raqqa and managed to retake “Assalamualaikum” village in the southeast of the northern city.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
