Undermining JCPOA to Harm US: Iran’s Larijani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani warned the US government that its attempts to spoil the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will only inflict harm on Washington itself.

“Americans suppose that countering the JCPOA would benefit them, while they themselves will suffer the greatest harm,” Larijani told reporters on Tuesday.

Deploring Washington for its lack of commitment to the nuclear deal and for imposing a new set of anti-Iran sanctions, the speaker underlined that the Iranian Parliament is weighing a retaliatory plan, saying, “We can change the situations very rapidly.”

As regards US criticism of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s handling of Iran’s nuclear activities, Larijani said Tehran can restrict the nuclear watchdog’s monitoring activities if the US deems them inappropriate.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the 159-page nuclear agreement in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.

The US has even imposed many fresh sanctions against Iran, in flagrant defiance of the JCPOA.
