Iran Army Ground Force Focusing on Mobility of Units: Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force highlighted the schemes launched to boost the mobility and assault capabilities of the force’s infantry units.

Speaking at a military gathering in Tehran on Wednesday, Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari said the Ground Force’s infantry units have undergone structural reforms, noting that all brigades have developed into “assault and mobile” ones.

He said 21 mobile assault brigades have been established in the Ground Force, describing the scheme as part of efforts to carry out the orders by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

In a November 2016 decree to appoint Brigadier General Heidari as commander of the Army Ground Force, the Leader called for efforts to boost mobility and efficiency of the units proportional to modern needs.

Heidari’s predecessor, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, had announced before leaving the office that the capabilities of the Ground Force servicemen have developed in recent years to deal with the new shape of threats.
