Senior Iranian MP in Oman for Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi is in Oman to meet the sultanate’s parliament speaker.

Boroujerdi arrived in Muscat on Saturday night.

In a meeting with Chairman of the Consultative Assembly (Majlis al-Shura) of Oman Khalid Hilal bin Nasser al-Mawali, the Iranian lawmaker is going to deliver a written message from Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

The sultanate of Oman has a bicameral parliament, made up of the members of the State Council and the Consultative Assembly.

Iran and Oman share age-old and close diplomatic, economic, and parliamentary ties.

Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said played an important role in facilitating the early stages of nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), which led to a landmark nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July 2015.
