On Sunday, Venezuela held election of members of the Constituent Assembly, a new legislative body with the power to amend the constitution.

Lucena said on late Sunday that more than 8 million Venezuelans cast their votes, Sputnik reported.

"That is a very positive result. Peace has won. If peace wins, Venezuela also wins," she said.

Earlier on Sunday, the country's opposition said that the turnout amounted to less than 10 percent.
