Iranian Naval Flotilla Docks at Omani Port

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Navy’s 47th flotilla berthed at Oman’s port of Salalah on Tuesday on the final days of an overseas mission that has lasted nearly two months.

Defense

The Iranian flotilla, comprising Alborz destroyer and Bushehr warship, made a port call at Salalah this morning after sailing international waters for 52 days.

According to commander of the flotilla, it has detected and tracked 1,715 oil tankers and trade vessels as well as 314 military squadrons of other countries during its mission in high seas.

The 47th flotilla’s operational zone involved mainly northern parts of the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden.

In recent years, Iran’s naval forces have increased their presence in high seas to secure naval routes and protect merchant vessels and oil tankers against pirates.

In line with international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran.
