Iranian President to Submit List of Cabinet Nominees to Parliament Tuesday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani plans to submit the list of his candidates for cabinet posts to the parliament on Tuesday, according to the spokesman for the presiding board of the parliament.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Behrouz Nemati said after President Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony in the parliament on Saturday it was heard that he would submit the cabinet members to the parliament for a vote of confidence on Tuesday.

Immediately after the introduction of cabinet nominees to the parliament, the lawmakers will begin vetting them and examining their future plans in specialized commissions and factions, the spokesman added.

Rouhani was sworn in as Iran's 12th president in a ceremony at the parliament attended by more than 130 high-ranking officials from 85 countries and international organizations.

All top Iranian officials and eight foreign presidents were among the dignitaries in the ceremony.

EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini also partook in the inauguration ceremony.

Rouhani secured a second term in May 19 presidential election by winning more than 57 percent of the votes. No sitting president in Iran has failed to win a second term since 1981.

The swearing-in ceremony came two days after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei endorsed the president’s decree.
