Iranian President Urges Closer Cooperation among JCPOA Parties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called on all parties to the July 2015 nuclear agreement between Tehran and world powers to cooperate more closely and pave the way for the full implementation of the deal.

“All parties to this agreement (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) should cooperate more closely and pave the way for its full implementation,” Rouhani said in a Sunday meeting with He Lifeng, the Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China, in Tehran.

He further hailed China's constructive role in the negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), saying, “Since the implementation of the JCPOA, Iran and China have taken good steps to develop their mutual and banking relations”.

The Iranian president also said that Tehran and Beijing have the potential to enhance their ties in diverse fields, including economy, new energies, technology, oil, gas, and petro-chemistry.

Lifeng, for his part, voiced his country's readiness to improve cooperation with Iran in different arenas, energy in particular.

“We are against unilateral sanctions,” the Chinese official noted, calling for “complete” and “accurate” implementation of the JCPOA.

Iran and the Group 5+1 reached the 159-page nuclear agreement in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
