Iran, Lebanon Caution about US-Israeli Plots to Disintegrate Region
TEHRAN(Tasnim) – Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations Kamal Kharrazi cautioned about conspiracies hatched by the US and the Zionist regime of Israel to partition Iraq and Syria.
In the meeting, held on Sunday, Berri said that in southern Syria, Israel together with the US are "hatching a plot to divide Syria."
He described the Israeli regime as “the biggest sponsor of terrorism.”
The Lebanese speaker further expressed concern that Syria has become a playground for rivalry among big powers.
Kharrazi, for his part, underlined unity among all religious and ethnic groups and acknowledged Berri’s remarks about the Israeli regime and the US conspiracies.
”The regional nations and governments should be vigilant since disintegration of Syria and Iraq are among their goals in the region,” he added.
Berri and Kharrazi then discussed the latest developments in Lebanon.
Kharrazi, a former Iranian foreign minister (1997-2005) congratulated recent victories achieved by the Lebanese army and Hezbollah Resistance Movement in fighting terrorism, including liberation of Arsal region.
He underlined importance of unity among all Lebanese ethnic and religious groups.
The Lebanese parliament speaker visited Tehran to attend President Hassan Rouhani's inauguration ceremony held on Saturday.
