Iran Outclasses Maldives at Asian Women's Volleyball Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran beat debutant Maldives in straight sets (25-4, 25-13, 25-14) at the 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship on Friday.

Hard-hitting spiker Mina Roosta led the balanced scoring with nine points while Mahdieh Khajehkolaei, Mahsa Saberi and Neda Chamlanian had eight apiece.

Both Iran and Maldives will figure in classification matches as the tournament continues on Sunday.

“We had two difficult matches against Chinese Taipei and Thailand and today we had a normal match against Maldives. We are preparing ourselves for future matches,” said Iran head coach Mirmostafa  Shojaei.

The 2017 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship is being held from 9 to 17 August 2017 in the Philippines.

The matches are being held in two cities, namely Binan and Manila.
