Iranian Official Lauds Role of Hezbollah in Lebanon’s Security, War on Terror

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council praised Hezbollah for its leading role in strengthening national unity in Lebanon and in the fight against terrorism.

In an interview with the Arabic-language al-Ahed news website, Ali Shamkhani said Hezbollah’s war against Takfiri terrorist groups has protected Lebanon against the spillover of violence and terrorism.

He also noted that Secretary General of Hezbollah Seyed Hassan Nasrallah’s courage, insight and sincerity have turned the resistance group into a decisive factor in Lebanon’s national unity and the country’s border security.

The top official then referred to the recent defeat of Takfiri militant groups in Arsal region on Lebanon's northeastern border, saying the successful operation indicated that Hezbollah remains steadfast in cleansing terrorism off the region and employs all its potential to contribute to Lebanon’s security.

Hezbollah, together with the Lebanese Army, could neutralize the terrorist plots in Lebanon and protect the country’s territorial and social security against the terrorist groups, he added.

Shamkhani further reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to supporting the resistance front and the whole countries in the forefront of combatting terrorism.

Lebanon’s Arsal area was hardly hit by the spillover of the Syria crisis in 2014, when militants managed to overrun the town for a brief period.

But Hezbollah has launched successful attacks against the positions of Takfiri groups on the outskirts of Arsal and of the adjacent town of Flita in Syria.
